The Javelin of King Saul

The Javelin of Saul

David was just a boy in the eyes of many.  Nevertheless, God was with David.  God blessed David with abilities at war and with musical abilities.  Nevertheless, with God's blessing sometimes come the fierce jealousy of others.  David found this out through first-hand experience.

God had been with Saul, the King of Israel, in the past.  Saul, however, had not remained faithful to God.  Saul became proud and became occupied with thoughts of himself.  He was also self-willed and sinned over and over again against the Word of God because of Saul's heart of evil self-will.  Because of Saul's pride and arrogance, God choose David to become the next king, instead of Saul.

Saul heard his people say that, "Saul has killed his thousands and David his ten-thousands."  Wicked jealousy and rage filled King Saul's heart.  Saul wanted all his people to stand up and applaud him at all times.  He wanted people to say, "Thanks to God and thanks to The Great King Saul".  After all, was he not the Great King Saul?  And wasn't this a great nation of Israel - thanks to God and thanks to King Saul?  Shouldn't people therefore rightly give him loud thunderous applause at all times? And what about this puny little "kid" named David?  Wasn't David just a stupid nobody who had been sent out on "guard duty" to care for and guard his father's animals?  How could that "troublemaker" David be compared to King Saul the Great?

Because of Saul's wicked sinful pride, God allowed demons to enter into and torment Saul.  Saul therefore sought solace from this demonization, and he found this solace in the music of David.  David played his harp and sang for King Saul.  This music comforted Saul when he was tormented by his demons of pride and rebellion against God.

But, Saul kept thinking about David as David played his harp and sang for him.  Wasn't this David his "enemy"?  Wasn't David the faithful lad who had helped King Saul and the people so much?  No!  David, the troublemaker must go!  He must be destroyed!  At Saul's side was a Javelin.  Saul thought to himself that this was the moment to reward David's great good with a great evil.  David would be murdered.  He would be "pinned to the wall".  This great threat to Saul's wicked and sinful pride would therefore be "eliminated" in a splattering of blood against the wall.

Quickly the javelin left Saul's hand aiming straight at David.  David though moved out of the way, and so escaped from Saul's attempt to murder him.  This was not the only time this occurred, though.  David again played for Saul and once again the javelin left Saul's hand, aimed straight for David.  As in Saul's first attempt, David escaped this second murderous attempt at his life.

Nevertheless, Saul did not repent of his wicked murderous jealousy.  David was forced out of Saul's court and fled for his life.  Saul then came after David, pursuing David for miles south-eastward out into the wilderness.  In his demonically-inspired jealous rage, Saul tried over and over again to murder or otherwise destroy David, using his assistants to try to help Saul attain  this evil goal.

Nevertheless, God was with David, and not with Saul.  Unlike Saul, David was a "man after God's own heart".  God therefore gave David some men to protect him from Saul's many attacks.  Eventually, God executed Saul in battle, as God's judgment against Saul's wicked sin and rebellion against Him.  Then David became the new King of Israel.

God promised to David that He would raise from David's seed a ruler who would one day rule over His people.  This ruler was the promised Messiah.  This ruler was Jesus.  Jesus is indeed a descendent of David.  Jesus died on a Cross to pay for your sins and rose again from the dead.  He ascended up into Heaven and will be coming back soon to rule over the world. just as God had promised David.

David was a man after God's own heart.  Your heart, however, is not after God's heart.  Your heart is after sin.  Your sin is written down in Heaven.  God will judge your sins one day and you will be cast into Hell.  But why go to Hell?  Jesus came and died for your sins on the Cross.

If you trust Jesus to pay for your sins, then Jesus will pay for your sins and give you an eternal home in Heaven instead of Hell.  Trust Jesus today. Then get into a good Fundamentalist Baptist church and live for Christ.  And may God bless you as you do it.
